| Match #1 (SMDN) | |||
| Umaga | def. | CM Punk | via Pinfall (11:52) |
| Notes: If I were a wrestler, I don't think I'd ever compete in my hometown. It seems like only bad things happen when you do. CM Punk tried the GTS too many times and he could not wear Umaga down. Umaga pretty much dominated the whole time, with only short bursts of Punk offense. Many chants for CM Punk the whole way. | |||
| Match #2 - ECW World Heavyweight Championship (ECW) | |||
| Christian Champion |
def. | Jack Swagger Challenger |
via Pinfall (9:34) |
| Notes: OK match, but the crowd seemed kind of dead for most of it. They were solidly behind Chritian, but seemed kind of spent after cheering for Punk. Christian rolled up Swagger and pinned him with a handful of tights, but this was after Swagger attempted to do the same thing moments before. | |||
| Match #3 (SMDN) | |||
| John Morrison | def. | Shelton Benjamin w/Charlie Haas |
via Pinfall (10:08) |
| Notes: A match between two guys that are great athletes, but who so far in their careers have underperformed, I'd say. There were a couple of cool spots, like this jump off the ropes by Morrison that looked more like a high dive routine, but the match underperformed for me as well. | |||
| IN RING: In kind of a weird segment, The Miz came to the ring to continue his trash-talking of John Cena, and even challenged Chicago Cub Alfonso Soriano, who was at ringside. Miz wanted Soriano to stand-in for Cena, but Soriano didn't do anything so Miz claimed to be 4-0 against Cena. Santino Marella came out next to defend a "fellow Italian" in Alfonso, and made fun of The Miz. Miz laid him out for his trouble and left. Miz had some great cuts on the lousy Cubs here. | |||
| Match #4 - WWE Intercontinental Championship (SMDN) | |||
| Rey Mysterio Champion |
def. | Chris Jericho Challenger |
via Pinfall (12:37) |
| Notes: Liked most of this match. Pretty much everything except the ending. I just love Rey Rey getting pounded, and he dodged a bullet here. Jericho was taking it to him, and it was a great match. Crowd was into it bigtime, and there was a huge pro-Jericho contingent there as well. Chants for him and cheers when the Walls of Jericho were applied. Chris almost made good on his guarantee of a 619-free match, but Rey Rey pulled it out right at the end and before you knew it the match was done. | |||
| Match #5 - WWE World Heavyweight Championship (RAW) | |||
| Dave Batista Challenger |
def. | Randy Orton Champion |
via DQ (14:43) |
| Notes: Didn't really work for me either. Went back and forth for the most part, with Randy making several attempts throughout to get counted out or disqualified. He eventually succeeded by slapping the referee and causing the DQ. Kind of a goofy ending, and Legacy ran down and started a beatdown on Batista. But who came down to make the save? Ric Flair. Crowd was happy to see him, so maybe that took some of the sting off of the crappy finish. | |||
| Match #6 (RAW) | |||
| John Cena | def. | The Big Show | via Pinfall (14:58) |
| Notes: What a crock of shit. Cena gets dominated for 14:50 but still somehow pulls the Attitude Adjustment out of his ass and wins the match. Earlier in the match one punch by Show would send Cena flying and have him rolling around on the mat in pain, but somehow he gets this rush to hoist up 500 pounds and toss him. And that one move is enough to finish off the Big Show. Give me a break. | |||
| Match #7 - World Heavyweight Championship (SMDN) | |||
| Edge Champion |
def. | Jeff Hardy Challenger |
via Pinfall (19:53) |
| Notes: Take that, ya freak. Decent match. Action spilled out of the ring and while Jeff was on the security wall, Matt Hardy ran through the crowd and clocked Jeff with the cast that Matt had on his forearm. That wasn't enough on it's own to finish off Jeff, as he kicked out of the subsequent pin attempt. Jeff had one more chance to win, but he was not able to climb the ropes fast enough to do anything. Edge superplexed him and it was all over. | |||
